FINANCIAL GOAL-THE UPPER HAND IS BETTER

The ultimate goal is Jannah, what would be the best financial path to attain this goal. How can we be more specific as to where we should start our journey? Can we have more specific quantified destination goals along the route? Just to make it clear that here in this blog we are mostly referring to the financial aspect of our lives, in no way does this undermine the other spiritual goals in every other aspect of our lives, all the other goals and paths that lead to Jannah are just as important. Here in this blog, we will narrow down our discussion on financial aspects only.

What inspiration can you derive from the hadith below? Doesn’t it guide you to the coordinate point in the society? It can guide us all as to where we should strive to position ourselves in the society, only to please Allah(swt) and gain HIS Mercy.

Abdullah Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH) said

“The upper hand is better than the lower hand, the upper hand is the one that gives, and the lower hand is the one that takes.”

Source Sahih Al- Buhkari 1429, Sahih Muslim 1033

Reflecting on the inspiration derived from this hadith we can understand that our efforts should be to become financially secure for the sake of Allah (swt) so that we can aid in the support and growing of the society rather than to be the one who is depended on it for basic requirements.

For some, the circumstances are unavoidable, they may be in a situation from which it is not easy to escape. Due to these unavoidable circumstances, they may be dependent on others to fulfill their basic needs.

There are others inspired by the hadith above, strive to be independent financially and assist others in need to lead their lives in a better way. Rizq has been determined for us by Allah , however, we have to make an effort to earn it.

Through halal earnings we should make ourselves and our families financially secure for both worlds. There is one aspect we carelessly overlook and that is to try our best to leave our families with a secure future rather than being dependent on the society when we depart from this world. Death is inevitable and the time is unknown so planning in advance is an essential component.

Leaving your inheritors in a better financial position is also evident from the Laws of Inheritance. A dying person cannot bequeath more than a 3rd of the wealth to the other relatives or for charity. This is because one should leave behind enough for the direct inheritors of the wealth, one should try not to leave them in a situation where they will have to ask others for financial assistance. During this process remember we never lose sight of the hereafter.
